Candle Care

Here are some helpful tips and safety guidelines to ensure that you get the best results from your new Rose & Herb soy wax candle

Safety First

When burning your Rose & Herb candle we want to ensure that you and all in your environment are safe, so here are a few guidelines to follow:

  • Light your candle on a heat resistant surface, away from any draught or flammable materials
  • Be careful not to knock your candle once lit to avoid molten wax from spilling
  • ALWAYS burn your candle within sight and NEVER leave your candle unattended
  • Keep out of reach from children and pets
  • DO NOT burn for longer then 4 hours at a time as this will cause your container to over heat and potentially crack

Take your time

When you receive your new Rose & Herb candle your wick will be ready to light straight away, make sure you have a few hours to enjoy your candle as it is best if you keep your candle lit until the melt pool reaches to edge of your container, this usually takes 2-3 hours for a small 20cl candle.  Wax has memory so if you do not allow the melt pool to reach the edge the first time you light your candle your candle will probably not burn evenly and this is called tunnelling.  We want to avoid tunnelling as this waste some of the precious wax, so set aside some time and unwind and enjoy.

Trim your wick

The next time you are ready to use your candle, trim your wick to approx. 5mm and ensure that there is no debris in your candle. You can use a wick trimmers which have a specially designed disc to collect the burnt wick and debris, a pair of scissors or simply pinch the wick with your thumb and finger (be careful if you do it this way as this will leave black soot on your finger tip so wash your hands afterwards).  The reason why it is important to trim your wick each time your relight your candle is because this will stop your wick from mushrooming and creating a large flame which can cause your container to overheat.

Use a wick snuffer

A great way to prevent smoke filling up your home when you extinguish your candle is to use a wick snuffer also called a wick dipper.  This handy accessory will keep the fragrance stronger and because snuffing gently starves the flame of oxygen until it is put out there is no hazardous debris in your melt pool. Plus it also looks super stylish and chic next to your candle.

Storage

If you have a lot of will power and want to save your candle for a special occasion, here are a few tips to make certain that your candle stays in perfect condition until you are ready to use it:

  • Candles are sensitive to temperature and light so to avoid candles from fading, cracking and melting by storing your candles in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, dust and fluorescent light.
  • Store your candles in an upright position and don’t leave your candles in your car on a warm day.

We hope these guidelines have been helpful, now you can relax and get the most out of your Rose & Herb candle.
